Huggable Amigurumi

When I first received my copy of Huggable Amigurumi by Shannen Nicole Chua, I skimmed through the pages and glanced at each of the designs. Many of them popped out at me because of their creativity and uniqueness. I was immediately impressed. But as I got to the end of the book and read the author’s bio, I was surprised to learn that all of these amazing designs came from a young college student that had been crocheting since the 6th grade. Shannon’s work is fabulous, polished, and professional and I look forward to seeing the success she will have in the future.

My favorite designs are the Lamb, Moby Whale, and Rocco Racoon, but I look forward to crocheting many of these designs. You’ll be delighted to know that you can use any of your favorite DK or worsted weight yarns for the designs in this book. All of the patterns are animals and so you will just want to look for a line of yarn that includes the essential colors for any particular animal. Finished projects measure about 6-12” tall and are perfect cuddle toys for kids (and adults too!)

The index has a comprehensive guide to the traditional stitches used in amigurumi as well as any others that are used in the book. For example, the Lamb uses a puff stitch to create the illusion of a coat of wool and that stitch is clearly defined in the index.

But in the end, will you love the patterns? The answer to that is yes. Not only are the instructions clear and concise, the assembly instructions are easy to follow as well. There are stitch counts after each row or round and a list of any additional notions that will be needed to finish any specific pattern, such as safety eyes or stuffing.

I love amigurumi! I’ve only made a few soft toys but definitely will be making more when I have time. This looks like a great book for inspiration and patterns. The cover pieces are adorable! 😀
