Sunflower Slouch FREE Pattern

It’s been so cloudy and rainy lately that I really wanted to make something bright and springy! This quick motif slouch did the trick. Enjoy!

Yarn

Lily’s Sugar & Cream worsted weight cotton (2.5 oz/120 yds):  40 yds #1004 Soft Ecru (A), Bernat Handicrafter Harvest Home Collection worsted weight cotton (12 oz/608 yds): 40 yds Maize (B), Knit Picks Dishie worsted weight cotton (100 gms/190 yds): 1 skein #25412 Azure (C)

Materials

US Size I/9 (5.5mm) and US Size H/8 crochet hooks, yarn needle, scissors, stitch marker

Child Size – 7 1/2” tall and 19” circumference

Teen/Adult Size – 8” tall and 21” circumference

Gauge

8 hdc and 5 rows = 4”

Motif measures 6 1/2” from petal to petal after Round 4

Stitch Guide

ch(s) – chain(s), sc – single crochet, hdc – half double crochet, dc – double crochet, st(s) – stitch(es),  BLO – back loop only, sl st – slip stitch

Special Stitches

2-dc cluster = yarn over and insert hook into indicated st, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops, yarn over and insert hook into same st, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops, yarn over and pull through all loops on hook.

3-dc cluster = yarn over and insert hook into indicated st, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops, [yarn over and insert hook into same st, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops] twice, yarn over and pull through all loops on hook.

1.  The ch-1 at the beginning of each round does not count as a st.

2.  Join with a slip stitch as directed.

Instructions:

With A, ch 6 and join to form a ring.

Round 1:  Ch 4 (counts as 1st dc, ch-1), (dc, ch 1) 11 times in ring, join to 3rd ch of beginning ch-4—12 dc, 12 ch-1 spaces.

Round 2:  Sl st into ch-1 space, ch 3, 2-dc cluster in same space as beginning ch-3, ch 2, *3-dc cluster in next ch-1 space, ch 2; repeat from * around, join to the 3rd ch of beginning ch-3—12 clusters, 12 ch-2 spaces.

Round 3:  *Sl st into next ch-2 space, ch 5, sl st in same space; repeat from * around, join to 1st ch-5 space—12 ch-5 spaces.

Fasten off A, change to B.

Round 4:  Ch 1 (sc, hdc, dc, ch 3, sl st in 3rd ch from hook, dc, hdc, sc) in each ch-5 space around, join to 1st sc—12 petals.

Fasten off B. Attach C in ch-3 space of any petal with a sl st.

Round 5:  *Ch 7, sl st in next ch-3 space; repeat from * around—12 ch-7 spaces.

Continue to size desired.

Teen/Adult Size 

Round 6:  Ch 1, 9 hdc in each ch-7 space around, join to 1st hdc—108 hdc.

Round 7:  Ch 1, *2 hdc in next, hdc in next 53; repeat from * once more—110 hdc.

Round 8:  Ch 1, hdc in each st around—110 hdc. 

Rounds 9-12:  Repeat Round 8—110 hdc.

Round 13:  Ch 1, *hdc in next 9 sts, hdc2tog; repeat from * around, join—100 hdc.

Round 14:  Repeat Round 8—100 hdc.

Round 15:  Ch 1, *hdc in next 8 sts, hdc2tog; repeat from * around, join—90 hdc.

Round 16:  Repeat Round 8—90 hdc.

Round 17:  Ch 1, *hdc in next 7 sts, hdc2tog; repeat from * around, join—80 hdc.

Round 18:  Repeat Round 8—90 hdc.

Round 19:  Ch 1, *hdc in next 6 sts, hdc2tog; repeat from * around, join—70 hdc.

Round 20:  Ch 1, working in BLO, sc in each st around, do not join—70 sc.

Begin working in a spiral and use a st marker to note beginning of each round.

Round 21:  Working in BLO, sc in each st around—70 sc.

Change to H hook.

Rounds 22-23:  Repeat Round 21.

After last Round, sl st in next st and fasten off. Weave in ends.

Round 7:  Ch 1, *2 hdc in next, hdc in next 23; repeat from * 4 times—100 hdc.

Round 8:  Ch 1, hdc in each st around—100 hdc. 

Rounds 9-11:  Repeat Round 8—100 hdc.

Round 12:  Ch 1, *hdc in next 8 sts, hdc2tog; repeat from * around, join—90 hdc.

Round 13:  Repeat Round 8—90 hdc.

Round 14:  Ch 1, *hdc in next 7 sts, hdc2tog; repeat from * around, join—80 hdc.

Round 15:  Repeat Round 8—80 hdc.

Round 16:  Ch 1, *hdc in next 6 sts, hdc2tog; repeat from * around, join—70 hdc.
