Red Heart Strata Review

Every now and then, a new yarn will appear on the market that completely surprises me. Strata is that yarn! I can not say enough good things about Red Heart’s new yarn. It’s a bulky weight yarn made from a jersey knit tube. It’s soft, squishy, and just as comforting as your favorite t-shirt, but with better colors! You’re sure to find your favorite the perfect shade in this line of neutrals and vibrant colors. I love Coral, Navy, and Aran but the other colors are bold and beautiful too.

Strata has a 76% acrylic, 24% nylon fiber content. It’s very gentle to the touch and has just a bit of stretch. The jersey knit tube construction means no fraying or curling edges and it also means awesome stitch definition. It’s a very soft yarn, but Strata is also very sturdy. It holds shape very well and would be especially perfect for home decor projects. It’s easy care; just machine wash cold on the gentle cycle and tumble dry low.

Each 3.5 oz ball of Strata gives you 95 yds of blissful crocheting. The recommended hook is an 8.0mm or 9.0mm so your projects will work up very quickly. I made a Clutch Purse which will be in the December issue of Happily Hooked Magazine with less than one ball, and in less than an hour. Some other ideas for use include accessories, fashions, totes, baskets, and more. It’s a new yarn, so there aren’t many patterns available yet, but don’t let that deter you. You will really want to try this for yourself.
